The first Kensington & Chelsea Young Writers Literary Festival made its first mark on history!
It felt very special to host the festival at The Hampshire School Chelsea, in the historic building of Chelsea’s former Public Library. We are deeply grateful to Mr. Donal Brennan, the headmaster, and Mr. Stef Plummer, the Head of English, for their contribution in co-running the festival and for welcoming children and parents to the magnificent School’s library hall.
It was also a great honour to have Mayor and Mayoress of RBKC attending the opening part of the festival and taking their time talking to children, as well as watching the first talk show with Piers Torday.
Yay to Chelsea Young Writers Question Time hosted by CYW authors-in-residence! Tackling children’s tricky and cheeky questions is a serious task! No wonder our authors have been left amused. One of the highlights was the authors revealing embarrassing stories about their lives!
We also thank Virginia McLean and her colleagues for delivering a very stimulating and interactive workshop for children on how they perceive the world. “Children are natural philosophers” as we all know, they always ask ‘why’! Virginia’s book Journey to the Beginning of the World explores the big question of how the world came to exist.
The last entertaining touch by Ben Target from the Kids’ Comedy Store was a great ending which brought a smile to all of us!
